Dreaming of the Sedona Sunset

It's so dreary in Nashville. And wet. And cold. At least if you live further north, you get pretty snow to go with the frigid temps. We get rain. So it's just nice and damp here for months at a time. Like last night, for example. While lying in bed trying to decide if we should go to the basement to avoid the potential tornadoes, I flashed back to last summer on our family trip to Arizona--"it's a dry heat." We drove to the Grand Canyon one day, and on the way back, some of us made a pit stop in Sedona and watched the sunset over the red rocks. Now, I look quite bedraggled in the pic above*. Remember that "drive" to the Grand Canyon? Well, it was 3.5 hours one way and included 5 kids under the age of four. It was fun though. It was. And also, I'm really sorry about the people in the background of our lovely shot, especially the lady wearing the unfortunate seafoam green shorts and sporting a hefty wedgie. Oh, God bless her.

I digress.

I actually really wanted to post about all the Southwest patterns popping up everywhere, so whilst I was dreaming about being in the warm, DRY air of Sedona last night, I was also dreaming of the prints below! They're literally on everything these days. And I'm in love.

1. Pendleton for Opening Ceremony Pencil Dress, $179.70, Shopbop. Dude. This dress is majorly on sale.
2. Ecote Bucket Bag, $39, Urban Outfitters. You'll never be able to find jack squat in this bag, but who cares when you look this adorbs.
3. Geometric Woven Scarf, $10.80, Forever 21. Can't beat Forever21 for some cheap stuff, ya know?
4. One Teaspoon Native Poncho, $215, Singer 22. This one is a little more of an investment, but I think these colors all look so good together!
5. Southwest-Inspired Boyfriend Shirt, $54.99, Ralph Lauren Denim & Supply. I've been loving this Ralph Lauren collection that recently showed up at our Nashville Macy's. It's all so perfectly wearable for right now and decently priced too.
6. Badlands Woven Belt, $68, Nasty Gal. Would look great with a pair of cords.

7. "Revolver" Wedge Boot, $149.95, Jeffrey Campbell. Leave it to Jeffrey Campbell to throw some Southwest print on a bad-A wedge. I mean, so great. And that color will forever more remind me of the "burnt sienna" crayon from the 64 box with the sharpener. Gah. It was the perfect color for the roof of houses in my Cinderella coloring book.

Here are some images that were posted on Just Jared yesterday that are so completely GORGE, I wanna just cuddle with my computer screen right now. We styled Jana Kramer for this photo shoot for her album last August on literally one of the hottest days of my entire life. Obvi, Jana looks amazing, but meanwhile on the other side of that lens, the rest of us look like mangy river rats.

Jana's debut single "Why Ya Wanna" hit country radio this week and broke a record for most added debut single of all time for a country artist. Whoa and Whoa. Be on the lookout for this gal, who we could NOT BE MORE EXCITED TO BE WORKING WITH!!!! ALS Christmas Wish List 2011

By this time of year, I've usually done my Fall Must-haves and I've done my Christmas gift guide, but I'm not gonna lie, y'all. It HAS BEEN A CRAZY YEAR. CRAZY, I tell you. So what I've done is made one big catch-all and call it everything I want for Christmas. You could also call these your fall and winter must-haves if you want. I'll just call them "Hey Matt, here's my list."

1. Old Timey Lady Blouse. 1) Peter Pan Collar Blouse, Topshop, $76. 2) Pussy Bow Blouse, Forever 21, $19.80. One of these would look super adorbs layered under a grandpa cardi or blazer.
2. Matte Red Liptick. Russian Red Lipstick, MAC, $14.50. I've finally gotten into a phase of loving bright lipstick. That's well documented. I've yet to find the perfect matte red, but this is supposed to be the ultimate. Santa Baby, hurry down the chimney with my tube of Russian Red.
3. Conversation-Starting Jewelry. Pygmy Seahorse Open Ring and Crab Claw Ring by Flotsam and Jetsam, both $90. Don't buy me costume jewelry. I'll buy that myself. If you're gonna get jewelry for me, I want it to be precious, and I want it to be interesting. Either of these sea-inspired rings by Brooklyn-based designer Flotsam and Jetsam would definitely get a convo going. I recently got one of her rings as a gift, and I LUUURRVVEE it.
4. Cropped Rain boots. Hunter Brixton Wellies, Madewell, $150. I have some knee rain boots, so *technically* I don't need more, but these are just so cute, right? And with tights, shorts, and a sweater? Stop it. Stop it right now. And it flippin' rains all the time in the winter in Nashville, so I definitely hafta have 'em. And helloooo, Bonnaroo next summer.
5. Ultimate Hair Product. Bumble and Bumble Straight Blow Dry, $28. My hairdresser used this on me the last time I got my hair cut, and then I brought the sample home and tried it myself. Fully expecting to completely suck at my at-home blowout again, when I used this product, I really felt like a professional (*almost.) It eliminates frizz so you don't look like Mufasa from the Lion King when you click the blow dryer off.
6. Rockin' Leopard Ankle Boot. Sam Edelman Petty Leopard Ankle Boot, $190. I do love mixing some patterns. An animal print shoe is a pattern that can serve as a neutral in my opinion. AND these serve to help you feel like you could be in the Beatles.
7. Printed Palazzo Pant. FP ONE Floral Fields Wideleg Pant, Free People. $98. The 70's called. And they want you to wear their pants. Ding ding ding! I'm in!
8. Perfect Plaid Coat. Seattle Shearling Jacket, $248. This is a classic lumberjack looking plaid. Would work so well over all those American heritage inspired outfits you're wearing right now. I mean, I hope you are wearing loafers and cuffed dark wash jeans while you're reading this.
9. 80's Blazer. River Island Blue Tailored Blazer, $64.54, ASOS. I'm particularly loving this cobalt blue, but any blazer that could have been worn by Julia Sugarbaker from "Designing Women" is definitely one you should own this fall. And a little pop of color is always good to lift your mood on a dreary January day.
10. Cheeky Animal Sweater. Cooperative Intarsia Sweater, $54. I love how whimsical these cutey little animal sweaters are that are popping up everywhere. Sweaters can be so lame sometimes, but not when it has a swan, or a glittery fox or a llama on it. I would layer this over a complementary plaid shirt and wear with jeans or a pleated skirt and tights.

The One That Got Away::Nan Kelley

Nan Kelley is a former Miss Mississippi, who hosts the Top 20 Countdown and Opry Live on GAC, and we get to dress her for those. Note the wording: We GET to. I say that because she also holds the official title of Sweetest Client of Amber Lehman Styling (Nan, gimme a holler. I need to give you your trophy.) Really. Doing a fitting with her feels about the same as drinking a hot cup of chamomile tea or eating a plate of cookies. It's that great and about that stressful too.

While there are probably plenty of Mississippi boys who really do think Nan is the "One That Got Away", what I'm talking about is a FAB jacket that just didn't work for us at our last fitting. Ya see, we pull a TON of clothes for these fittings, and there are some really lovely things that for whatever reason just don't click. With Nan, it's usually that the jacket or top or pants just look awful on camera. Nothing to do with her sassy self of course, usually it's a problem with the color clashing with the set of Top 20 or the pattern makes the camera do crazy things, something like that. But it's different for every artist. Could just be that we can only shoot so many things on a photo shoot and something had to get the boot.

So with this wealth of knowledge I have about what's out there right now, I thought it would be fun to start a new feature appropriately titled "The One That Got Away" to highlight the items that I LOVED from some of our fittings, but just didn't make the cut. Doesn't mean it couldn't work for you, right???!! Here's our first installment:

Floral Cropped Jacket, $199, Maison Scotch

Beth and I were totally obsessed with this jacket at our fitting with Nan for the Fall Top 20's. This brocade-y/floral-y/old-lady-y/curtain-y/tapestry-y print is a tiny little nitch trend for Fall. Frankly, I like how Piperlime has it styled in this pic here. No need to complicate things. Let the jacket do the talking. And since you don't have to try to pull off a small floral print on TV like Nan, you can rock the tail off this baby. (And here's another one I love at Free People, and it's on sale!)

We work with Lauren Alaina. You guys know that by now. And we've been working with her a lot to help create a new look for her that is still young, but classy and fun. I think we captured this at the CMA Christmas Special, filmed here in Nashville at the Ryman. She's wearing a Mandalay dress, Swarovski jewelry, and Enzo Angiolini peep toe sequin heels. Kick back, drink a cider, and if you're feeling extra sentimental, you might just shed a tear during Lauren Alaina's rendition of "Grown Up Christmas List."

So sue me. I went online to Victoria's Secret and didn't look at bras. But I really do like this shirt. Would look GREAT with a sleek leather pencil skirt and those suedette pumps above OR with a pair of black wide-leg pants for a holiday party. And then pair with boyfriend jeans after the party for every day!

Antler Necklace, Alex and Chloe, $100
I love this necklace so much I don't even really know what to say about it. It takes me back to my deer-huntin' roots, it's perfectly layerable, it's still delicate. I mean, throw some diamonds on it,
and it'd be the perfect piece of jewelry pretty much.

Honey I Shrunk the Sweater

I spent a GREAT Thanksgiving holiday in Louisiana, and part of my time was in Baton Rouge. Yay! Geaux Tigers! One of the most fun nights I've had in a while was an evening with several of my good friends including two of my besties Caroline and Lelia, and another old friend that I absolutely adore, Ruthie Sayles. You may remember her. I blogged about her awesome hair pieces last year. Please check out her website and drool over her amazing house on Design Sponge here.

So Ruthie had on the cutest sweater that I had just seen at Anthropologie. While I was spending some much-needed "shopping for myself" time there, I couldn't help but notice the racks were LOADED with cropped sweaters, and I thought to myself, "Gah, if I weren't a stylist, I would have NO idea what to do with these." I mean, you'd be seriously hard-pressed to find a sweater right now that doesn't look like it went through an extra-hot dryer cycle. Ruthie had the one below on with a striped long-sleeved shirt underneath hanging out the bottom about 6 or 8 inches with black leggings and a burnt orangey-brown boot. It looked amazing, and that's one way to wear a cropped sweater. Another way to avoid having your turkey belly hang out the bottom of this season's short sweaters (wait, I'm not the only one with a turkey belly this week, right?) is to wear with high-waisted flare jeans layered over a cute plaid shirt. I came up with one more way, which I've highlighted below that you may not have thought of yet.

1. Alabaster Tassels Sweater, $99.95, Anthropologie. In Ruthie's words, "I've worn this thing three times a week since I bought it." It literally is perfect, and it's actually shorter than it looks in that picture in person. Adore the fringe.

2. Nine West Janajay Ankle Boot, $129, Endless.com. One of the big boot trends this season is a hybrid of "I'm going hiking" but I'm still a hot chica. If you're wanting a new boot to add to your collection from last season, think about this one. And that fur trim never hurts for keeping your little footsies nice and toasty.

3. Sugar and Spice Dress, $138, Free People. Maxi dresses and skirts are still having a major moment. I especially love the high-low hem of this one, which makes it a little more interesting. Y'all know that I've been doing Girls of Grace fashion shows this year, and one of the tips I gave in the Fall shows was transitioning your summer maxi dress to Fall/Winter by layering with it. That's what we're doing here. We're adding tights and the cropped sweater to warm it up a bit and also to get more use out of a piece you may have put in the basement already.

4. Annie Embroidered Western Shirt, $78, Levi's. Talk about having a "moment." The denim shirt is on fire. For like the last two years. Way to go, Denim Shirt! You totally did it! So you probably already have one. Well, to add another texture and another layer for the chill, put it over your dress, button that baby up and then put the sweater on top--the collar should come out the top and the shirt should hang out the bottom. You'll be like the hippest accountant on top and a Free People employee on the bottom. Bam.

5. Arrow Drop Earring, $19, Urban Outfitters. I love these earrings. The geometry of them is great, and they're kinda brassy looking and not all shiny-cheap-I cost 3 dollars gold. I actually bought them for GAC Top 20 host Nan Kelley, and she wore them last week on the countdown. So they passed the look good on TV test. I mean, FYI. In case you have any TV appearances coming up.

6. Nordic Fair Isle Tight, $18, Urban Outfitters. And here we have the tights, which are probably a staple for you this time of year. These are grey but with a cool "fair isle" pattern, which makes them blend right into our outfit but add a little hit of pattern.

If you wanna get extra cute and cozy, add a slouchy beanie and while you'll look all OMG look at her just throwing that outfit together on the outside, on the inside you'll know it feels like you're wearing a Forever Lazy cuz you're so cozy. So, there you have it. How to wear a cropped sweater. You're welcome.

So I kinda met Obama. Okay, I didn't. But I was one degree away from it. Because Lauren met him and she was wearing a dress I bought her, and so therefore, I met him. I'm in love with that dress actually. Like I kinda wanna have a party with those ruffles on the front. And I wish y'all could see the shoes. I wanna marry them. I put a picture of them on the bottom so you can fight me for their betrothal.

Lauren is wearing a BCBG dress and Abyss by Abby earrings. Dierks is wearing his usual dashing good looks. Unfortunately, he looks great, so I can't offer him my services.

This year's CMA Red Carpet was SO fun for me. So many artists with different tastes and ages. It was challenging, but really, really awesome. Do you have a favorite? I am in love with Dean's bow tie...and the back of Jana's dress...and Lauren's shoes...and Cherrill's rings...and the color of Hannah's dress on her...and how perfectly Meghan's dress fits her style...and....well, I love it all! Here we go!

I found something so awesome, I felt the need to alert the masses. ASAP. Juicy Tubes by Lancome is my all-time favorite lipgloss. (Considering I AM the "Lip Gloss Junkie", this is saying a lot.) ESPECIALLY in the color "Spring Fling." Well, imagine my surprise when I went to the Lancome section at Sephora and see this beauty. Six GLORIOUS tubes for $29.50????!!! (An $81 value.) Do my eyes deceive me? Could this be true? Run, don't walk, to Sephora and snatch this up while you still can. And if you're in Nashville, go see Joseph. He's a doll. Cozy Cardi Season

You know what I love? A cardigan. They're about my favorite piece of clothing. And this time of year, I love an extra long one because they are the perfect cozy cover-up to cut that Fall chill. I just wandered around Anthropologie for a few minutes, and saw about six I wanted, but I'll widen my search and show you a few more that I've got my eye on. The most on-trend cardigan for Fall is probably more of a blanket or poncho style, but let's be honest, everyone shouldn't wear a poncho, so I'm giving you more options if you're not into the super-drapey, unfitted look of wearing an actual blanket.

Patterned shawl-collar cardigan, Gap, $89.95
The positioning of the print is fun and those toggle buttons are so adorbs. This shape is a great alternative for someone who likes to show off their waist.

Southwestern-Pattern Wrap Cardigan, Old Navy, $54.94
This is SUCH a good deal compared to these others and still completely on-trend.

Knitted Shawl Cardigan, Topshop, $96
This grandpa shawl cardi is in a fantastic color for Fall.

Line-Upon-Line Cardigan, Anthropologie, $39.95
A neutral pattern in such a dramatic length.

Dolan Collared Blanket Cardigan, Shopbop, $231
Not cheap, but oh so gorge and so perfect with a wool floppy hat. And while quite "man repeller", who doesn't kinda want to wear a blanket? Who? Tell me.

How to wear: My favorite way to wear a cardigan like one of these is just open over a plain tank or fitted v-neck with corduroys, boots, and a wool hat--a wide-brimmed fedora or floppy hat would be sweet. I actually wore one similar to the Old Navy one this morning with a flair leg orangey-colored pair of cords and wedge boots. Skinny cords tucked into knee-high riding boots is also great. You really can't go wrong, especially if the cord is in a darker color. And how cozy? Cords + Cardis. They make a great team.

Lip Gloss Junkie::Glow Like J. Lo

Lip Gloss Junkie here. Sorry it's been a while. On top of being super busy, I have been super sick. No fun at all. And you know what goes along with being sick? Dull, lackluster skin. UGH. So I've been on the hunt for some products to help me get my glow back. I've been trying to figure out how to achieve the perfect dewy/glowy skin for quite some time. Here are a few of my "skinspirations" to get me started:

2. Moon Beam by Benefit. $26 at Sephora.

3. Artificial Light Luminizing Powder by Smashbox. $20 at Nordstrom. Amber and Amber's mom, Deb, swear by Smashbox products. I wonder if this one is a winner also.

4. Bonne Bell Glimmer Bronze Highlighting Dust. $3.95 at Drugstore.com. For $3.95, what do you have to lose? Except that dull, tired skin.

Beth, testing out the size of our hat flame

I think with this video everyone in a 20 mile radius of my hometown was able to live vicariously through me. See, I am from the "sticks", as we like to call it in Louisiana. And I kinda grew up in a racing family. Basically that means that on the weekends I hung out at the racetrack. Yes, those who know me in Nashville want to be surprised about this, but you find that you really aren't. I would sit in the bleachers attempting awkward middle school conversation with friends over the din of some janky old race cars that some good ole boys had built in their front yards. The perk? My nana worked the concession stand, so it was all-you-can-eat popcorn. So, when I got the call to work on the Justin Moore video for "Bait a Hook", I felt uniquely prepared. All the members of my family still follow NASCAR religiously, so I couldn't have been more excited to meet Carl Edwards. And I got a couple little speaking parts on the ESPN B-roll that was doing behind-the-scenes--that was a little mini-dream come true. First and last time I'll ever be on ESPN most likely.

In styling for this video, I didn't do a ton with Carl. He has a greatbody, so we just put him in a fitted henley, his fishing outfit. Andthen the suit just needed to fit well also. And since Justin is acountry boy, snap-buttons were pretty much the only choice. The thingthat I labored INTENSELY over--I mean, 20 straight hours with the helpof one of my assistants, Beth--were the pit crew uniforms. They got asweet 5 seconds of glory, but how good do they look? I would prettymuch call myself an expert at cutting out swimsuit fabric now (theflames on the legs and back.) The Nashville premiere of "Footloose" happened at the Downtown Franklin Theatre last Thursday night, and we helped Lauren Alaina get dressed for the event. Doesn't she look cute?! The event was "country casual," so we wanted to keep the one-shoulder dress by Leona a little more relaxed by adding those amazing red suede Diana von Furstenberg boots and some funky jewelry. I wish you could see the fringe on the back of those DVF's. It's to die for!

Lauren is also carrying a clutch by House of Harlowe and her earrings are by Diana Warner, our buddy, coming through in the clutch for us! Love ya, DW!

Not that Nine West isn't cute. It usually has a pair or two of shoes that I would say, hey, that's not your average black pump. But I feel like they have REALLY stepped it up this Fall. And since I know I have plenty of readers out there who love themselves a mall store (so do I--that's where the sales are!!), I thought I would point out my favorite 9West buys for FALL!!!

1. Unmixed high-heel loafer, $109. So boyishly cool, totally 70's, and in for fall. These guys with a pair of teal or burgundy tights are right in line with some of the rich tones that are on their way.

2. Inthedirt mid-calf boot by Karen Elson, $249. You cannot go wrong with a flat boot. I mean, ever. This one looks legitimately straight off miles on the road guitar-teching for a band. (sidenote: only someone from Nashville would write "guitar-teching" in a blog post.) Speaking of Nashville, Karen Elson lives here, she's a super-model and she has curated a beautiful collection for 9West. There are so many more great ones besides this legit boot.

3. Mavenue platform bootie, $149. One of the biggest trends for fall is the stacked heel bootie. This one would be so perfect with a vintage midi skirt, slouchy sweater and wide-brim fedora.

4. Layla boot by Giles Deacon, $149. This is the standout piece from British fashion designer Giles Deacon's collection for Nine West. I've been drooling over this bootie for months now. It's finally in stores, but only 12 nationwide, so you may be better off snagging them online.

5. Frederica evening pump, $109. This shoe looks so designer-y. I could see this shoe in a box of red-carpet loaner shoes from a much more high-end designer. Hey, with all the events (err, friends' weddings) bound to adorn your calendar this fall, well, you need these red-carpet look-alikes.

6. The Ghost platform by Karen Elson, $149. Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, OH my gosh. This shoe K-I-L-L-S me. This would look so amazing, with, oh, everything. Gym shorts? Yep, those too.

5. Nathania satin peep-toe pump, $89. This shoe is so hot. Picture this: holiday party, a festive beverage, little black dress, these shoes...as the Pistol Annies (see below) would say, you're "hell on heels." (FYI: also comes in grey and black, perhaps more "dinner with the in-laws" colors.)

Hey y'all. I wanted to share my guest blog that was recently posted on AshInteriors.net. Enjoy!

Hey guys! Just in time for it to be super steamy in Nashville and in Baton Rouge, I told Ashley that I was dying to design an outfit around an outdoor room. I love so much the idea of an extension of one's house into the fresh air that is cozy and really does feel like another "room." This room is well equipped with tons of pillows for lounging, a neutral airy color scheme with a couple bright pops, and the perfect amount of seating for tons of people talking by candle light and drinking summer-themed cocktails. Yum!

I wanted the outfit to be elegantly casual, something that you might wear to a dinner party held in this outdoor room. You would want to look dressed for the occasion, but in a laid-back, effortless way.

A. Free People Festival Belt, $38. This belt in its natural-looking color palette goes with the pattern in this dress and would define the waist of many a printed top. This belt could be made into a pillow or rug and fit right into our lovely cabana.

B. 12th St. by Cynthia Vincent Maxi Dress, $260. 12th St. is one of the best brands out there for effortless chic. She does shoes and handbags too, which you should for sure check out. This dress in the cabbage rose print with its diaphanous layers is perfect for the temperature extremes of August.

C. Revlon Colorburst Lip Gloss in Gold Dust, $7.49. In my opinion, unless you are just dying over the unique color of a more expensive brand, you can usually skimp on lip gloss. There are so many great low-priced ones out there, and this particular brand and color is one of my faves, recommended to me by my hair color girl Anjelica. It's a beautiful peachy neutral that would work on pretty much anyone. And when hanging outdoors, you don't wanna go over the top with the makeup. Pretty and slightly sheeny is all you need.

D. Gretchen Jones for Piperlime Intuition Ring, $48. I wrote a blog about this collection a few days ago. I just love it. I love everything about it. Every piece has great architectural detail and a unique personality. And the best part is that every one benefits Aid to Artisans, creating economic opportunity for low-income artisans around the world.

E. Crystal Pendant, Nasty Gal, $20. This outfit called for pretty simple jewelry to let the dress be the star. I chose this single necklace because it looks like one of those lovely hanging lanterns.

F. Seychelles Arden Espradrille, $90. This espradrille is so darn cute. The bows add a fun bit of youth and whimsy to the more mature-looking dress. It helps keep the look not so serious.

G. JJ Winters Crocodile Envelope Clutch, $59. You could easily go with a beige or metallic clutch to hold your lipstick at our fictitious outdoor party, but why not add a fun pop of color with this amazing teal. Kinda like the random bright, patterned pillow in the back corner of the cabana, this clutch is unexpected and fun.

H. Anthropologie Summer Chill Pullover, $89. If you're like me, you carry a cardigan or light sweater everywhere. In Baton Rouge and in Nashville, restaurants are not scared to crank up the A/C. And sometimes nights can even be a little chilly. (Maybe that's just us in Nashville though. ;-) A pullover like this one works perfectly with this dress because it cinches in at the waist and will look like you planned a second outfit once it's layered on top.

I. Benefit High Beam Luminescent Highlighter, $26. Like I said before, at an outdoor event, you want to make sure your skin looks flawless--all that natural light--eek! High Beam is one of my favorite products. Applied along the upper cheek bone and eyebrow bone, you look perfectly dewy, like you've been drinking gallons of water every day and never indulge in cocktails :-).

J. Elizabeth and James Figueroa Sunglasses, $225. Everything the Olsens touch is just cool. No exception with these sunglasses--they look like they came straight off the set of "Almost Famous." I love how the colors in these sorta look like the black and brown striped pillows in the cabana.

L. Hoop in Hoop Earrings by Elma Blint. The Williamsburg Flea Market in Brooklyn is one of my favorite places ever. It's chock full of yummy, interesting food and equally interesting vendors peddling their wares of handmade and one of a kind items. I met the designer Elma Blint at the most recent one. I am obsessed with a snake ring she sells with small real emerald eyes.

Probably like you guys, I'm so excited for fall! And for Ash and I, that means me dreaming of cozy knits and boots and her of deeper, richer pallettes and outdoor party planning. Who knows what the two of us will come up with next, but stay tuned for more room/outfit switcheroos for sure! xo-Amber

Hopefully you know by now, but every fashionABLE scarf sold helps create sustainable business for women in Africa who are in desperate circumstances. Well Hello! Amber and I brainstormed quite a while to figure out who our next style icon would be. If you have missed the previous installments, basically I design a room based on someone’s fabulous style, and Amber puts together an outfit/look based on a really cool space. When we thought about Beyonce, we both knew she would be great! How much fun for me to get to design a room based on this fabulous lady!?!?

Beyonce’s style is daring, bold, colorful, fierce, and fabulous. Her personality is lovable, kind, devoted, family-oriented, and she just seems like you could be her BFF. Both of these must be considered when putting together her room--who is she on stage and who is she off stage? You will see that the room is a mix of the fabulous and the comfortable. For the record, those two seemingly opposite qualities can live harmoniously.

A. Besta TV Storage from Ikea ($580) – This sleek piece is simple and perfect for serving its function and not being fussy. Sometimes the area around the TV can be so cluttered and really just an eyesore. Mine currently is driving me crazy! This piece is so darn inexpensive, and really could solve a lot of storage issues while giving an intentional home to the TV.
B. Simpatico Corner Sectional from DWR ($8,500) – This is a simple perfect sofa. It is also expensive! Beyonce would probably splurge on her big items such as the sofa but if you work on a smaller dime than her (um, I think most of us do!), then look for similar options at Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, and even Ikea.
C. Lourdes Sánchez Bull's-Eye Rug from West Elm ($109-$399) – This rug is graphic and modern, much like Beyonce’s outfits. She is all about some sharp angles, be it in jewelry or jackets. Love this rug…
D. Eva Zeisel Coffee Table from DWR ($1,500) – This piece is a show-stopper, much like B. It is feminine and beautiful, but the black color really does keep it from being over-the-top girly.
E. Turquoise Moroccan Leather Pouf from Serena and Lily ($345) - “perfect as a footstool or extra seating, our poufs are at home in any room of the house…” Poufs are everywhere these days! They are sort of a modern day beanbag. I love how this one really does give casualness to the space.
F. Nube Armchair in Sarah Morris Fabric from DWR ($2400 each) – Very expensive but very, very, very fabulous. I had a hard time with this room but once I found these chairs, I got a much clearer direction. They are simple shapes but the fabric just puts them over the top. If you love the look of printed chairs but do not have $4800 for a pair, check out the huge selection at Target. Almost any room could use a printed fabric chair and they really do come in at a very low price point.
G. Bourgie Table Lamp in Gold ($985) – This lamp has modern day detailing but the shape and materiality are really pretty classic. I mean, whose grandmother does NOT have a brass lamp somewhere in the house? I see a cool DIY project here. Salvage a brass lamp from a thrift shop or garage sale and spray paint a shade to match. I think the “oldness” is cured by the matching gold shade. It turns from out of style to totally funky!
H. Saarinen Tulip Armless Chair with a Red Cushion ($1500) – This is a chair that has been around since the 1950’s. Classic and modern. You can find knock-off versions at quite a few places. Here is a cheaper one in case you are not super rich. :-)
I. Seychelles Chandelier from Serena and Lily ($1500) – Made from seaglass beads and a hemp-wrapped steel frame, this chandelier is just plain ole gorgeous. Crystal chandeliers can be found all over these days, and really there is nothing to be afraid of with them. Buy a cheap-o and hang it somewhere unexpected such as in a bathroom or laundry room. Why not?!
J. Abstract painting by local Baton Rouge artist, Doug Kennedy. So much color and texture and graphics and depth… I could go on and on about his work. There is nothing like art to really take a room to the next level. I love helping people select art for their homes, and seeing the new life it gives the space.
K. Diva Wallpaper from Graham and Brown ($85/roll) – Wallpaper makes such a powerful statement. Try it out. Don’t be scared! I love this gold, which is appropriately called “Diva.” If I remember correctly, it may just be hanging in Amber’s hallway! (Yes, it is -- AL :-)
L. Etch Candleholder ($55) – This candleholder plays so nicely off of the gold lamp. Touches of gold can do a whole lot to modernize a space and give it personality. I love silver metals too, but for B, we just had to go with gold!
M. Jewel Tone Agate Bottle Stoppers from the Rain Collection (price varies) – these are so beautiful, and add a touch of glitz and color. All of the collection is beautiful. I also really love the green and blue coasters.
N. Totem Pillow Cover from West Elm ($29) – Black and white accessories add a touch of “stability” to a room. The colors cannot go wrong when paired with Beyonce’s look that is edgy, yet familiar.

The now Miss Lopez is launching her debut collection there this fall. Nina Garcia is on board, so it's probably pretty good. The entire collection includes contemporary sportswear, dresses, handbags, jewelry, shoes, and sleepwear, and the Jennifer Lopez Home Collection consists of bedding, towels and luggage. Everything will be available exclusively at Kohl’s stores nationwide, and online beginning in September 2011.

Can someone give me a ring when they head to the suburbs to actually go to Kohl's though? Let's carpool.

Gretchen Jones: Si o No?

Last year's Project Runway winner has released a line of jewelry exclusive to Piperlime. I think this is awesome, actually. I love Gretchen Jones' style when it comes to apparel, but I think her jewelry is totally rad. In fact, during her runway show during the PR finale last year, it was the jewelry collection she created that was the real star. She has a F/W 2011 collection that you can view on her website. The piece to the left is one of them. Again, cool jumper, but that necklace is TOTALLY FAB.

Piperlime is in cahoots with Project Runway in a big way. So you can not only buy Gretchen's jewelry line on the site, but anything "seen on" the show as well. How many of you are watching this season? I thought last season's go-round on Lifetime was MUCH better than the final season on Bravo. Do you guys like Gretchen's stuff? In preparation for a new Amber & Ash post featuring a fun celeb and an outdoor room, here is one of the last posts that I wrote for Ash Interiors. I absolutely LOVE this room and outfit. I'm a huge fan of Kelly Wearstler and her career. I recently read a Wall Street Journal article about her, and it really feels like she's doing it right. And her style, well, it's impeccable. Her clothing and accessories line debuts this fall also. I CANNOT wait. Check this room out! Can you imagine having that in your home? How about the outfit? Like it?

I love Kelly Wearstler. I could never pull off anything she does in the spaces she designs, but I appreciate her gutsy style so much. It's a little bit 1970s glamour, usually pretty bright, and full of pattern-mixing, one of my all-time favorite things to do in decorating and in outfits! My husband and I actually stayed at a hotel called the Viceroy in Miami last year simply because she had designed the inside. Oh my gosh. It was amazing and made our time feel so luxurious. I've taken her love of bold colors and mixing prints within the same color palette to my outfit. This might be my favorite one yet!

A. Diamond Maze Enamel Bracelet, Lucky Brand, $40.
This bracelet perfectly echoes the patterned pillow in the room, and of course works with the other prints because it stays in the same color pallette.
B. Blu Moon V-Neck Tank, Shopbop, $93.
Cute with jean shorts and great with an Ikat skirt. This top coordinates with the maxi skirt because the smaller pattern is not competing with the skirt's big print.
C. Crown Jewels Chain Ring, Nasty Gal, $18.
If you could use one adjective to describe Kelly Wearstler's style, it might be "daring." This ring is that also. Why not throw a little whimsy into your outfit with a double-knuckled ring with a little extra bling? And I love this Nasty Gal site also. So many unique pieces at great prices.
D. OPI "Too Hot Pink to Hold 'Em" Nail Polish, Beauty.com, $8.50.
I had to throw some bright pink in the mix because of that throw on the bed. And why not? Too Hot Pink To Hold 'Em? Sounds like summer to me!
E. Fringed Fan Necklace, Nasty Gal, $40.
This necklace is meant to represent the cool lamp in the photo, and it's another great way to make a 70's statement. I am a firm believer in accessories, whether with your clothes or in your home, really personalizing your belongings.
F. Rebecca Minkoff Studded Rocker Bag, $295.
Rebecca Minkoff is one of my favorite handbag designers because, well, she uses lots of grommets and studs. I love bringing a little edge to outfits with a handbag. When people ask me how to take their look up a notch, how they can look cool without trying too hard, one of the first things I always say is get an awesome handbag! You would be surprised at how many things in your closet will work with a bright orange one too.
G. Leather Chain Pink Bracelet, Fossil, $26.
Fossil is doing some really cute things lately. I love these bracelets layered with tons more in a haphazard way.
H. All Saints Alba Skirt, $139.30.
This ikat skirt is the piece de resistance of this outfit. This ikat design is very current (every magazine has page after page featuring these batik prints right now) and the colors in this skirt perfectly reflect the feel of the room. I'm in love.
I. Cheap Monday yellow sunglasses, $30.
In the bright, cloudless days of summer, you hafta think about protecting your peepers and using your shades as just another way to bring your style quotient up. These are an affordable way to do that. So cute. Love Cheap Monday.
J. Boyfriend Bling Bangle, Fossil, $48.
This is great for everyday and would be perfect for a cocktail party also. And Fossil, at it again with the cute accessories.
K. Hammered Band Ring, Lucky Brand, $26.50.
This band is so easy, cool-girl. You could have bought this at an artisan fair in San Francisco...or, just on Luckybrand.com.
L. Pro Longwear Lipcream in Goes and Goes, MAC, $16.
I've been obsessed with purple lipstick since the beautiful spread of Adele in all aubergine shades in last month's InStyle. A makeup artist on a shoot I did last month wore this shade on herself with tons of mascara and that's about it. It looked so fresh! I can't wait to get it.
M. Pixie Zip Wedge, Jeffrey Campbell, $124.60.
The platform wedge keeps this outfit in the mode of Wearstler's 70's glamour. However, this skirt could easily go beach style with some epradrilles or flat sandals. And shoot, for now, I'd wear those pink platforms with some cutoffs and a t-shirt. I love the light pink!

Hey, it's Amber, and I thought I'd pass the mic to Carrie again, the self-proclaimed Lip Gloss Junkie and wardrobe coordinator for Amber Lehman Styling. Not only is she a lip gloss fiend, but she's super-good at spotting great beauty products. We liked her first post so much, we decided to branch out into all of beauty, not just lip gloss. So, take it away Carrie!

Just wanted to take a second to tell you about a couple of my new obsessions. (I'll spare you from listening to me going on and on about Friday Night Lights. OB.SESSED. We watch at least two a night. Ok, enough. Texas Forever.)

So, two words. Hair. Powder. Have you tried it? It's a must! I have flat, thin hair (kinda like Julie Taylor--but enough about FNL.) Hair powder does wonders for volume. It also helps you skip a day between washes. I've tried every brand under the sun and have found THE best. This brand has also been recommended by a few celeb hair stylists at shoots we have worked on, so you can take their word and mine.

So this video I have described as feeling like I birthed a baby. Of course, I've never birthed one, but I think it is probably something akin to dressing 25 extras in a music video. I also worked with Natasha Bedingfield, who is impossibly nice and hilarious. I had been a fan of hers for such a long time, so it really was extraordinary to get to dress her for this video. We created a hairpiece especially for her as well as all the other feather accoutrement in the crowd that are attending the gala. It was fun to brainstorm all these little details and put them together. Natasha is wearing a stunning gown by Alberta Ferretti, which was especially perfect for all the running shots because it was so ethereal and flowy. Let me know what you think!

Summer Mini-trends

Summer is almost halfway over! It's so hard to believe. I also find it super hard to believe every time I say this because I remember my parents saying things like "Time is flying" when I was little. And I always thought it was dragging so slowly and that I would never be able to say that. At any rate, since summer is "flying" right past us, I thought I would highlight some of my favorite summer mini-trends so far. What are some of your mini-trends at this half-way point?

1. Cropped sheer tops. This one by Free People, $88. Now not everyone has the body, the occasion, or the lack of modesty to wear a sheer top over a bustier like this gal. This is a cute look, but probably one reserved for the pool or Bonnaroo only. I highlighted this trend during my Girls of Grace fashion show in the spring by putting a sheer top over a strappy maxi dress. I think it adds an interesting layer to a dress without bringing up the temperature too much.
2. Kimono jackets. This one on Urban Outfitters, $54. I'm obsessed with Nicole Richie's look and her line Winter Kate has been full of these batwing, bed jackets for several seasons now. This look is best over a simple tank and cutoffs or jeans.
3. Printed ethnic shorts. These at Forever 21 for $14.80. Any printed short will do, but I particularly adore an ikat print like these or another that has a bit of an ethnic flare. Wear with really strappy sandals on a super-hot day. And with shorts that are sure to get noticed, you can buy several pairs for this price and toss them next season when these prints are no longer all the rage (or when they fall apart in the wash--whichever comes first :-).
4. Panama Jack hats. This one is at J. Crew for $58. This year's fedora, the "Panama Jack" hat, as I like to call it, looks so fresh with summer outfits. The bright white of this one really pops and would look especially fab with those printed shorts.
5. Below-the-knee skirts. This one at Madewell for $158. You could of course find about a bajillion just below the knee skirts at Goodwill or out thrifting, I just happen to be obsessed with the beautiful color and flow of this one from Madewell. I love that skirt lengths are coming down a bit too. It means I can skip shaving my legs every day, and it's also a trend literally for all ages.

Kenny Chesney::"You and Tequila" video

This video came out a couple of weeks ago, and I realized today that I had forgotten to post it! I dressed Kenny for "You and Tequila", working with Shaun Silva out in Malibu on it. I really think it's the most beautiful video Shaun has done in quite a while. Pretty gorgeous. Meeting Grace was a total blast too. She's a super cool girl.

We shot it one day in a fabulous house (see the view from the master bedroom below), and in Griffith Park overlooking all of L.A. the second day. This was one of those jobs where I kinda can't believe I get to do what I do. Enjoy the video, and here's to hoping that these lyrics don't describe your 4th of July weekend! Happy Holiday!

I Love the Little Things

Recently, I've been loving dainty jewelry. I used to think that more was more--you know, the bigger the ring, the better. The more gigantic the necklace, the bigger your statement. And I definitely still think that. BUT, on a daily basis, like when I go to Portland Brew to work with my other freelancer friends, which we lovingly refer to as "meeting at The Maxx"** (name that teenage TV show reference), it's nice to wear jewelry that's a little less in your face. Aaaah, so many little things, so little disposable income to buy them all.

1. DC Comics Batgirl Earrings, $55, Noir Jewelry. Noir makes some of the coolest, kinda edgy jewelry out there. I love these cheeky little studs too.
2. Short Arrow Stud Earrings, $30, House of Harlowe. These dainty little arrows are only 3/4" long. And rose gold is my new jam.
3. Knotted Up in You Rustic Sterling Silver Ring, $18, Muffintop Designs on Etsy. My friend Lyndsay Rush, freelance writer and funny girl, first introduced me to this designer. She was wearing it one day, where else, but at "The Maxx." This ring looks awesome layered with tons of other jewelry. Muffintop also has other stacking rings of all colors. I adore how simple and organic these designs are. They would be amazing bridesmaid or hostess gifts!
4. Snake Ring, $27.99, Rachel Rachel Roy. Just a teeny weeny bit of bad-A.
5. Anchor Earrings, $40, Gorjana. These nautically-inspired drops are adorable. Gorjana always gets it right with their brand of femininity.
6. Mini Horizontal Cross Necklace, $121, Jennifer Zeuner. I love this. Love it, love it, love it. You could literally wear this every day with all your other jewelry, and it would totally work.
7. Tiny Skully Necklace, $260, Iwona Ludyga. Emmaline here in town sells this brand. It's real gold, and this necklace comes in several other iterations--including tiny hearts, tiny diamonds, and the word "yes", which is so fun.
8. Obligato Necklace, $50, Diana Warner New York. The original and the best of the dainty jewelry, the Obligato necklace. Diana is one of my friends and one of my fave jewelry designers. This necklace happens to be one of the first pieces she ever designed too. I've had my Obligato for at least 6 or 7 years. Each necklace also provides clean water for at least 10 Africans.

Sure to be a little wild and pretty sexy, the newest designer collaboration from H & M has been announced. It's with one of the world's most legendary fashion brands, Versace. Donatella supposedly was at the head of all the design, and she has promised to use tons of the staples we know Versace for: leather, prints, and lots of color. Since I don't live in NYC or anywhere else that has an H & M, I'll just watch from afar, but it's cool to be in the know, right? The collection releases November 19th in 300 stores worldwide. Standing in the crowd of people surrounding the slow-moving belt of baggage claim was a beautiful girl wearing a perfect outfit. This was at the Nashville airport yesterday after I landed from my trip to Baton Rouge, and the girl looked like Eva Mendes. That fact certainly did not hurt the effect of her perfectly put-together white and grey ensemble. Rather than snap a pic of her with my cell phone, I decided to replicate it below for you. It was so simple, really. An all white t-shirt and jeans combo topped with a perfect, cropped grey blazer and finished off with nude espradrilles. The simple long necklace was a gorgeous finishing touch. While I wouldn't suggest wearing white on a plane, I wasn't about to tell her that :-).

Skorts--like a spoonula or spork, or shacket (a shirt/jacket)--they kinda serve two purposes. The skort looks like a skirt at first glance but is actually a pair of shorts. I recently bought a pair at Fossil and wore them for the first time yesterday. They were comfy and non-confining, allowing the cool summer breeziness of a skirt, but were so much easier to wear getting in and out of the car. No Lindsey Lohan moments!!! It's rather apropos that I deem myself the Turbanator, wouldn't you say? Ahaha. Sorry. That's rude. Anyway, I'm way excited about this how-to video on tying your fashionABLE scarf as a turban. The Meselu Summer is actually the perfect width and weight to wear this way (and lots of others.)

Turbans are back in style with everything else that is 70's-tinged in clothes currently. I love the idea of turbanating your outfit when your hair is a little bonkers (read: dirty) or even on the beach. The pictures at the bottom are from the March Free People catalog, where the turban is styled beautifully. Oh, and "I'll be back" with plenty more videos where this came from.

Well hello there! I am Ashley, of the blog, ASH Interiors. After a big hiatus due to a pregnancy (and now a baby), some major flooding in Nashville, pending flooding in South Louisiana, the holidays (can I blame the holidays when it is already mid May?), and a rockin’ work and travel schedule, we are back! I really am so thrilled to post a Fashion | Home blog. It is so much fun for us, and hopefully for you too! Let’s get down to business.

For all you Gossip Girl fans, you will be happy to know that another one of their cast will be featured – LEIGHTON MEESTER! I am not talking about Blair Waldorf. She is too predictable and sort of stuffy. Leighton is actually quite different than Blair, in all the right ways!

This is Amber’s take on Leighton’s fashion: “The first thing that comes to mind with Leighton is her top priority is fashion and on-trend-ness. Whether an outfit necessarily looks good on her or may be perceived as weird, neither seems to matter to her--she's willing to take risks. Because of this, and because she's beautiful, for someone who's really not that famous yet, she's gained a following of some big-time fashion designers (Louie Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Missoni) who are dying to dress her and is becoming known more and more as someone to watch on every red carpet. I wouldn't even say her outfits are predictable because they're not! The common thread is that most of them seem to have at least some edge, sometimes a lot, and they're never boring! The great thing about her though is you never know what is coming next--very unexpected on the red carpet, which makes her really exciting to watch!”

First of all, take a look at Leighton. These pictures say a lot about her style. The first dress is super edgy and courageous. I mean, I’d be scared to death to even try it on! The middle one has beautiful feminine accents in primary classic colors and the one on the right is sort of a combination of those two ideas.

Let’s look at the room I put together for her. It is both progressive and trendy, but still anchored by the classic primary colors and simple foundational pieces.
A. ZGallerie Alister Sofa, $1699.00. What a beauty! This sofa is so perfect. I love the rich velvet fabric and the prissy tufting and pillows. Think of this as the gray in the middle dress. It is like a “stage set” for the drama to reflect off of.
B. Dark Wood Floors. These are also part of the backdrop of drama. I have really dark wood floors in my house, and we have a love/hate relationship. I love the look but hate that they always look dirty. However, if I were and up-and-coming superstar I would have someone to clean them so that would be fine :-).
C. Caramel Leather Chair. I fell in love with this chair at first sight. The leather is a perfect camel color, sort of like the perfect purse. The style of the chair is much more rustic than the sofa, which is what makes it fun. Totally different… Leighton would never have a “set” in her house! Too predictable and Blair-ish!
D. Rothko Painting. Mark Rothko is a mid-century abstract artist from the New York School. He is known for his use of color and shape. I feel like that description waters him down a bit, so if you are interested in reading about a really cool artist, google him! Prints are available from DWR at a very affordable price. He does a lot in primary colors and they are just breath-taking in person. I have had the honor of seeing a few.
E. Urban Outfitters Woodland Garden Curtains. These curtains reminded me of Leighton! I love the price too! Keep your eye on Urban as a place to snag great priced window panels. This is a very quick way to give new life to a room for a very small investment.
F. Walltherapy Paint-By-Numbers Wallpaper. Are you ready for something insane? From the Walltherapy website: “Walltherapy began in April 2003 and was a collaboration between Rachel Wingfield and flour aiming to bring together areas of design with neuroscience and colour science.” Basically, you are given wallpaper that is designed according to the results of your test, and can then paint it yourself as a part of the therapy experience! The colors are selected based on what will enhance your well-being. Don’t we all need a little well-being-enhancement?
G. Big Bang Light Fixture. I absolutely love this light. I have used it at many jobs around the US, and have never been disappointed! It is large and in charge! These polycarbonate “fins” all interlock to form what acts as a sculpture hanging in the space. The sharp edges remind me so much of Leighton’s edgy side.
H. Ralph Lauren Prints. Classic! Classy! Cool! How great are these prints? Art does so much to define the personality of a space. These are a little pricey, but consider adding a few classic black and white photos to any room. I think they fit in just about any design.
I. Anthropologie Candle. Anthro has wonderful candles. I have more than I care to admit. They make me very happy and I burn those suckers all the time. This one is particularly lovely.
J. Cleo Table Lamp from Crate and Barrel. Lamps can be very difficult. They are expensive, often under sized, and often way too traditional. No one wants to be replacing lamps when they change their color schemes or update seasonally. That being said, this lamp is a wonderful choice. It is classic and simple without coming across as serious or overly traditional. Even if you have chrome or nickel accents, this one would work! Mix those metals!
K. Red Accent Pillows from Walmart. Who says you cannot find great things at Walmart!? Because Target is super cool and often a go-to place for home accents on a budget, you often see the same things over and over again in peoples’ homes. Everyone knows the secret about Target being awesome. Everyone does NOT, however, have Walmart on their radar! Check it out next time you have a free couple of hours at 2 am. Most other times the ones here in Baton Rouge are so dang busy that I avoid them like the plague. The other option is to shop online.
L. Creamsicle Melon Mugs. Speaking of secrets, I think the Etsy secret is out as well! I often get lost in the Etsy abyss and have a hard time getting out! These adorable Creamsicle Melon Mugs caught my eye. Great color, great shape, great price!

So the last three times I've been to Fossil, I've bought something for myself. I feel like it's suddenly so much cooler! They have tops with fun prints and modern shapes in fabrics like silk that you could wear to work or out on the weekend. And I love all their options for bottoms right now: from skorts to cute cuffed (read: not too short) shorts, in prices that are easy to swallow. How adorable is this outfit on the mannequin?! That denim blazer is so versatile for making shorts and a tank a little more tailored, but maintaining that easy-going spirit. This little get-up with an espradrille for a trip to the mall on a Saturday is perfect! Or replace the shorts with a cuffed chino for church or work. Their jewelry has always been great, but the focus lately seems to be on vintage-inspired pieces that work well together and are perfectly layerable. The closest one to us in Nashville is in the Cool Springs Mall or obviously, you can find all the pieces below online!

1. Yellow Stripe Boat Neck Top, $34. Love stripes! Love yellow! (And pssst, boat necks are almost universally flattering.)
2. Mystic Duo Earrings, $26. Look like they were plucked straight from a vintage store!
3. Flora T-Strap Pump, $109. This adorable little shoe looks like it could be from Anthropologie, but for about half the price!
4. Stella Rose Gold Watch, $115. Rose gold is making a comeback! Try this color for a new twist on the boyfriend watch.
5. Juliet Dress, $78. Another shape that looks good on all body types. And if you're gonna wear a dark color, why not get it with a cute print for the warm weather.

On My Radar::[Cream Jeans for Guys] Starring Seth Philpott

I'm really loving the look of cuffed cream jeans on guys right now (usually just undyed denim.) Try as I may, I haven't been able to talk anyone into wearing them in a photo shoot yet. But I'll keep trying!!! However, to tide me over until I actually get them in print, I ran into Nashville indie artist Seth Philpott at J. Crew the other day. I casually (read: excitedly) told him he should try on their cream straight leg jean. And, lo and behold, if he didn't totally do it! I tweeted him a little later to ask how it went and he even sent me a picture! What a guy.

I love that how to the left over there, Casual Leaning-against-the-Wall Seth is just wearing them with a tee (Alternative Apparel) and Sperry's. It's perfect, really. This look says, "Ladies, I'm kinda a hipster because I'm rocking some cream jeans, but look how dangerous I am by just throwing it all together so haphazardly."

Here's another great option at Imogene + Willie as well as a more relaxed fit at Lucky Brand. Wearing cream on bottom is not scary--it matches everything and would look really great with that denim shirt you're a little iffy about because you're not sure if you can wear it with jeans. Get on board, guys. You know you wanna. Hey, and keep it PG, mmk? Not too tight. Remember, they're white.

Chambray is the New Denim

My MO is comfort first when the feeling that you're blanketed with a wet towel upon walking outside arrives. Who wants to be wearing heavy denim or suctioned-to-your thighs skinny jeans when the humidity is through the roof. To keep the look of denim but lighten up the sweat production, I think that chambray is perfect. You can still enjoy your "jeans" but in a cooler (literally) and hipper way. Of course my obsession with Madewell is well documented, so you know that my fave is this perfectly slouchy pant that they have worked back to oxfords (so cute) but would be equally adorable with a wedge like this. Of course they have a shorts version too--If you're going slouchy, try to keep the look tucked in on top. You can wear a more blousy shirt, but it's nice to see your waist. This whole look, whether shorts or pants, is so perfect for weekend! Here's a very dreamy one from Rag and Bone too. LOVE.

If you follow me on Twitter, you know how much fun I had working with Justin Moore on this video. We got to hang out all day, and I got to start getting to know him. I think it just made me feel like I was back home, really. I'm from north Louisiana, and Justin is from south Arkansas, which may as well be north Louisiana. People talk the same, act the same, do the same things. In fact, if Justin weren't a very busy rising superstar, he'd probably accept an invite to go deer-hunting with my brother. That's just the kind of guy he is, and his music reflects that. Catch him on tour this summer with Miranda Lambert. Sounds like a good time to me!

I love fashion for a cause that's actually cool. When I signed on to help out with fashionABLE, for example, one of my top priorities for the line was that it be a really hip scarf--not just something you buy to "help out" but then never actually wear. I think Jedidiah has done a great job of this, well, with their whole line, but particularly with the really cool Japan benefit shirts that they've done. They have several styles for guys and girls that you can buy on their website or in town at 2L. My fave is the one above. So simple, yet such a powerful message. For every 20.00 t-shirt purchase, Jedidiah donates $15 of it (that's a lot) to the World Vision/Japan disaster relief fund. Lip Gloss Junkie by Carrie

I'll never forget the way I felt the first time I laid eyes on this amazing Hello Kitty lip gloss set. I was 7. It was $8...it may as well have been $100. But, I saved and and saved and and you better believe I bought it. It was the best day. I mean, it had SIX COLORS! That's where my lip gloss obsession began.

This lipgloss is AMAZING. *Such* a pretty color. It has the perfect texture and it stays on pretty well. My pet peeve is lip gloss that you put on, and it's gone in like 30 seconds. BUT- I also hate super gooey, thick lip gloss. This one is the perfect balance.

Amber Lehman Styling's Spring Must-Haves for Dudes

Well, guys. It's time for you to shine. Here are your ALS-seal-of-approval Spring Must-haves in no particular order of importance.

A. Ludlowe suit, J. Crew, $248 jacket, $118 pants. In my experience as a stylist, this is the best slim-fit suit I've ever bought that costs less than $800. If you're looking for a new suit for spring weddings or for just looking dapper, I suggest the khaki. I doubt you have anything like this in your closet already, unless you're my friend Justin Holbrook, former guest blogger and frequent suit-wearer.

B. Cuffed chinos, Obey, $68. Jeans are hot. Like temperature hot. And if there's anything I know about dressing guys, in general, they just like to be comfortable. Why not trade out that sticky, tight denim for some lightweight pants? Make sure they stay pretty trim. A slimmer silhouette is much more modern than anything you would find at Hollister (unless you're an actual surfer, then wear whatever you want.) Cuff them at the bottom with the shoes (K) pictured if you want.

C. SPF 15 face lotion, Every Man Jack, $4.99. In general, wrinkles are a little more acceptable and "distinguished" on guys than on girls. However, skin cancer is not cool in any circles. Man up, boys, and start wearing SPF on your face at the very least. Every day.

D. Brightly-checked button-up shirt, Burton, $49. Change up your boring old plaid with some electric colors for spring.

E. Classic Bucks, GH Bass, $69. 'member those shoes your mom made you lace up yourself for Sunday school, guys? They're back. I love the idea of these with a slightly rumpled button up, faded jeans and a navy blazer for an easy out-and-about look. Or for a more hipster vibe, again, cuff those pants and wear with a white-vneck tee and an open plaid shirt.

F. V-neck t-shirt, Urban Outfitters, 2 for $28. These are the best t-shirts for the price, bar none. You should have them in every color. They are so soft and the v-neck is the perfect depth. You know that "v" can get way too chest-hairy pretty fast if it's too low.

G. Fitted leather jacket, All Saints, $549. Nothing gives a guy that Tom Cruise in Top Gun look quite like a leather jacket. (That look is hot to girls, in case you're wondering.) Make sure it's nice and fitted and not Bachrach "jazzy dad."

H. Brightly-colored cutoffs, Levi's, $49. These might not be for you bankers out there (cuz I know I have a HUGE banker readership), but there's just something cool and easy about knee-length cutoffs. Pair with lace-up boat shoes and a short-sleeve gingham shirt.

I. Suspenders, Dockers, $14. I just watched The Notebook, the movie that's always more traumatic than you remember. Seriously, it's like I forget and then I subject myself to it all over again. Anyway, Noah wears suspenders a lot in the movie, and you should too. Also, I dare you to watch it and try not to cry.

K. Canvas lace-up shoe, Keds, $50. Scared of Keds cuz your wife or girlfriend wore them as a fifth grader? That's legitimate. But try them, maybe you'll like 'em? Still not feeling it? Any sort of lace-up canvas shoe, even Vans with a little more weight to them is a great option for spring with shorts or pants.

This is the newest video from one of my oldest clients, 3 Doors Down. They have a new album coming out in the next few weeks. I absolutely love working with these guys because they are good ole boys from Mississippi and could not be more laid back. Even in the freezing cold in downtown Nashville a few weeks ago, it was still a great time on the video set. With wardrobe for this video, I feel like we gave them a nice slick vibe while keeping with their rock edge and the moodiness of the art direction. (Video was directed by Ryan Smith.)

Point 1: Not to be a big-time shoe snob or anything, but it's not that often that I find a pair of knock-offs at a department store that I really feel is legitimate. You can get away with them sometimes, but so often, they just look cheap and poorly made. In general, I would much prefer to pay a little more for the real thing. Well, I finally found a purchase-worthy knock-off. I just wrote about Dolce Vita a couple posts back--they are one of my favorite shoe lines (you know, that normal people can afford) and they have an open-toed wedge that is just to die for. Turns out Target has the same wedge for 1/4 of the price, and you can't even tell it's synthetic. The Pilar wedge by Mossimo comes in black and burnt orange. Considering the wedge is a major must-have for the warm weather months ahead, you might think of letting yourself veer down the shoe aisle on your way past the detergent and dryer sheets on your next trip. Who knows if they're comfortable, but they sure are cute. Anybody out there buy them yet?

Point 2: Target has just re-released their most popular dresses from all their GO Collections over the last couple years. Some of them are just amazing. Like the Thakoon one below, which is perfect with those wedges from Point 1 :-).

When I got the call to work on Reba's latest video, I put the phone down and did a little dance. You know, like Laura Linney's character in "Love Actually" when she hides around the corner of the stairway when the hot guy comes home with her. I mean, SHE'S THE QUEEN OF COUNTRY MUSIC! Meeting and working with her was pretty surreal.

On this video, I was basically a wardrobe assistant because the talented Sandi Borchetta custom made the green dress. I helped out with the accessories she is wearing, the shoes, which I'm pretty sure you never see, and the wedding dress. The dress was a beautiful Amsale from The Bride Room, and she is wearing a Winifred Grace bracelet from The Perfect Pair.

A. Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors "Chasing Someday", $9.99. I cannot stop listening to this album. It's barely been above 50 this week, and I've forced myself to roll the window down even though it's still quite brisk, just so I can turn up the radio and blare this Nashville-based band. "Fire and Dynamite" has gotta be my song of the year so far. If you have one dollar to spend today, buy that song. It'll make your weekend exponentially better.
B. Blue nail polish, American Apparel, $6. My "chocolate brown is the new 'You Don't Know Jacques'" prediction for Fall didn't quite come to fruition. So there are no wagers on this one. The simple fact is blue is fun. It's springy. It's awesome. You should wear it.
C. Half-sheer skirt, Urban Outfitters, $49. The first time I really tuned into this trend was on the Project Runway finale when Gretchen was spotted wearing granny panties under a sheer skirt. I wouldn't suggest heading to happy hour wearing that combo. This Urban one would be great however because the underneath skirt is a normal length. Love it with just a tee and wedges.
D. Platform wedges, Jeffrey Campbell, $179. This shoe for spring is truly all the rage. This wooden one is great because the color and the fringe harken back to the 70s, which is back in FULL FORCE this year.
E. Big beaded necklace, Lucky Brand, $75. My spring uniform this year will be a bohemian top, those flare leg jeans and a big beaded necklace. This one from Lucky has a bit of a tribal feel to it, which is also a micro-trend, probably best taken in small doses.
F. Striped cropped top, Forever 21, $12.90. I'm not suggesting you wear a cropped top with low-rise jeans. I am suggesting you wear with high-rise jeans OR a tank underneath. We're grown-ups, and we don't need to be showing our midriff. If you're not a grownup yet, you really don't need to be showing your midriff, but probably for different reasons.
G. Cat-eye sunglasses, ASOS, $21.52. Maybe you don't need new sunglasses. I certainly don't. I put myself on a "no more sunglasses" diet about a year ago. IF, and that's a big IF...IF I were to fall off the wagon, I'd buy these.
H. Lipstick in Hot Sass, MAC, $14.50. Coral lipstick looks so fresh with sheer layers and florals. Oh, and a tan. Aww. I remember when I had one of those one time. If you're a little scared of this color, I suggest baby stepping your way into full-blown orange by just dotting it on and then topping with sheer gloss.
I. Cold beverage drink holder, Bed, Bath, and Beyond, $7.99. When it's nice out, I find any excuse I can to stop for iced coffee at Portland Brew in the afternoon. I'm getting one of these this year to a) cut down on the cups on the floorboard and b) cut down on the cups overflowing from our recycle bins, and c) cut down on petroleum use because I'm using les...okay. I'll stop now.
J. Cropped silk pant, Madewell, $125. I happen to love the print of these pants, but since this style is pretty trendy, you might wanna pick some up at Forever 21 or H & M. Or there are a ton of cute similar ones at places like Anthropologie in solid colors, which may be more practical for your life. The key is to be sure and tuck in your blouse or everything will just be balloon-ish. A heel is always nice too. Wanna stay as far away from the lounge pant look as possible.
K. Hi-lo hem dress, Free People, $98. Kinda like a mullet, except vice versa. The hi-lo hem dress is a party in the front and business in the back. Look for skirts and dresses to be sporting this multiple personality hem in the coming seasons.
L. Elsie flare jean, Imogene + Willie, $250. You gotta get yourself a pair of flare leg jeans for the spring. The shape works on everyone and they're practically timeless. If you're gonna spend money, may I present you the Elsie from Imogene + Willie. Us Nashvillians are partial to the store because we also LOVE Carrie and Matt and all the peeps who work there, but I submit to you that it may be the most perfect butt-lifting, lengthening, and flattering jean ever made. High praise, I know. The manager Rhett told me the other day he is batting 1000 on people who try them on purchasing them. Numbers don't lie, people. If you order online, I suggest going down a size.

Atlanta Market: Lines I Like_Charlene K

When you're at market, and you're working a booth for 12 hours a day, you kinda get to be friends with the folks next door. On our left was a lady selling boleros made out of coke can tops (we did not become her friend.) No lie. And people were *actually* buying them. I wanted to put a sandwich board on myself and picket in front of the booth to save people from walking in. Awful. Thank goodness right there on the other side was a sweet girl with a booth full of feminine but slightly rock-n-roll jewelry by Charlene K. Charlene K is California based, and we all really fell in love with her dainty necklaces mixed with big stones and big, hand-hammered hoops. A couple of my favorite pieces are below. They would look fab pared with all the fun spring florals right around the corner.

I have certainly made it no secret that I love Dolce Vita's shoes, and I have a few pieces of their clothing, which I've always, well, just kinda liked. However, I saw their upcoming collection, specifically that of their more well-priced line DV by Dolce Vita, and I fell in love. It's full of tribal prints (very in for Spring), cropped blouses, and fantastic bohemian dresses. Be on the lookout for it--SO. ADORABLE. I got the dress pictured above. Planning on wearing it with a long black blazer and military-style mid-calf boots until Spring really arrives!

Atlanta Market: Lines I Like_Resin Denim

I told y'all last week that I was gonna do a little review of some of my favorite things from Atlanta Market, so here's the first post. I plan to do a series of some of the lines I saw that I really liked, and it will all culminate in a Spring Essentials list in a couple weeks! In the meantime, enter Resin denim. It was co-created by the former head guy at Paper, Denim, & Cloth, which was always known for great fit with classic detailing. Resin isn't classic though; it's denim with a bit of an edge, which I love. We've all got our dark wash J Brands and our good-fitting Lucky's, but Resin is a jean that fits into the everyday wear category like these, but is a little more special. I love the one below, which is re-introduced in the summer line, but is 1/2 off at Shopbop right now! It's a grey jean with a bit of an Aztec print that is ever so barely there. This jean would look amazing with a flowy off-white top and a floppy hat in the spring or now with a slouchy black sweater. Oh, and they do color extremely well too! The colors are often overlaid with black, so they are a bit more muted and fall into what I consider a more neutral category because they look so worn. There's a mustard one coming out for summer that I was drooling over at market. Right now, you can get them at Barney's Co-Op in several washes and colors, and for $138, the price point is far below some of their premium denim competitors.

FashionABLE: The Meselu

Like I said in the last post, I've been really busy in my spare time with FashionABLE, taking my second trip down to Atlanta in a month, this time for the Apparel Mart. Lucky for you, I did a little scouting on some of the coming trends for Spring and Summer! First priority was scarf-selling, however, and we did a lot of that--especially the new Meselu style, which we worked on during the winter with the ladies in Africa. We wanted to make the perfect spring scarf, and I personally think we did. Watch the video! You'll see how thin, gauzy, and long it is--making it wonderful for chilly nights (and chilly theaters and restaurants) and perfectly pile-able around your neck. I wrapped a great shoot recently with Building 429, and I realized how much easier it's getting to find cool stuff for dudes for a good price. A few of the pieces that I ordered for the guys is below...when you're working with 4 guys at once, everything can't cost one million dollars, ya know? Some notes in particular: Levi's 511's are the best deal for jeans on the market right now. They're a great price, and they are the perfect skinny, but not-too-emo jean. I styled Brandon for the album packaging and his promo pics, and I put a couple on this post. We used a lot of Billy Reid, including the shirt below, for the shoot. The jacket on the cover is by J. Hi guys! Happy first post of 2011! I really can't believe that I've been doing this blog for almost three years. It's nuts! I started it 'cuz I was getting so darn bored with all my down time. Unfortunately, that down time has dwindled over the last few years because I've got a few more clients now, that, well, require my "paid" attention :-). One of the things I like to do for some of these clients is help them with their wardrobe for the road by providing them with ideas to wear the same things over and over again in a fresh new way and for different seasons.

I recently came to the rescue of Joanna Smith and helped her make a lovely summer wardrobe of frilly, girly dresses more winter-appropriate; one of the tours she was on was called "Cold Beers and Reindeers." Sounds chilly to me! Needless to say, a sundress is just not gonna mix well with a December tour so aptly named. So I compiled a few pics (most of which are taken off the Free People website) to show her how she should wear her cardigans over her sundresses and how to put tights and knee socks and boots with those flirty pieces that she might normally wear with an espradrille.

And here are the tips for YOU: It's pretty easy, really...put on your sundress (just make sure it's not an overtly summer print or fabric--like linen), tights (cute textured ones would be fun), top with a sweater cardigan or leather jacket and scarf and end with some knee boots or clogs. If your paws are extra cold like mine, add some knee socks just peeking out the top of your boots. Take a look at the same pics I sent Joanna and while you're at it, I added the video of the photo shoot we did with her last summer! Now get your buns down to the basement and drag out those sundresses!

Perfect Party Polish

Let me tell you. It is a major crap shoot when you get married to get yourself some good in-laws. Thankfully, I have GREAT ones and LOTS of them. Well, my mother-in-law outdid herself for Christmas this year by buying me the *BEST* nail polish. One of the colors she got me would literally be the perfect color for your New Year's party. It says, "I'm kinda metallic, so I'm ready to party, but I'm grey too, so I can have a conversation with you that will knock your socks off." Not only is the color rad, but it has excellent staying-power and literally does go on, like, well "Butter." May I present to you, Butter nail polish in Chimney Sweep. You can thank me later.

Point of Grace Christmas

I know I shouldn't pick favorite clients, I shouldn't. It's probably like picking a favorite child. I can't help it though. I LOVE Point of Grace. And it's not because I wore out their CDs in college; I genuinely LOVE them. We have SO much fun when we get together, and they trust me to make them look good, which counts for a lot. Obviously, they like me too because they asked me to go on the road with them next year as the "Fashion Expert" on their Girls of Grace seminar tour. That should be a good time, so stay tuned for more info on that little venture.

I worked with POG on their last two albums, one of which is their Christmas album, "Home for the Holidays". There's still time to go pick it up to play at your family gathering this year! Check out the cover above, and a lil' video of a couple of the songs you'll find on it. Country Weekly loves the album too! I love the outfits we landed on for the girls in the picture in front of the tree. Since this album is a little bit country, we wanted to maintain a relaxed vibe for them with some warmer tones that weren't overtly Christmas-y, but were still festive. Oh, and there was the whole problem of if we wanted them to be wearing full-out Christmas gear, we did this shoot in July, so that would have been a challenge.

Well, helloooooo! Turns out that Christmas is just more than a week away. How did this happen? I've barely done ANY shopping. I don't know if you're in the same boat, but I put together a little list that might help you if you're short on ideas. They're just a bunch of fun things that I've seen around that I really love. That's the only theme. Things I love. Merry Christmas! (This page is organized from gal stuff on top to gal/guy in the middle and then guy on the bottom.)

A. Groove Pant, Lulu Lemon, $98. I don't personally own a pair of these, but all my girl friends who do SWEAR BY THEM. Supposedly they last forever, they make your butt look fantastic, and they are comfy as all get-out.

B. Faux Fur Coat, Uniqlo, $79.90. This is a great price for a fun coat. I'm drooling over this.

C. Nail Polish 4-pack, Essie for J. Crew, $20. You cannot lose with nail polish for the modern gal. I love the 4-pack too because the more colors, the MERRIER, right?

D. Ceramic White and Rose Gold Watch, Fossil, $195. If you, like me, got a huge gold watch for Christmas last year, maybe it's time for a big white one this year!

E. Shoulder Bag, Alternative Apparel, $98. I've always been a big fan of Alternative Apparel, so I'm super stoked that they are starting to produce accessories like this canvas shoulder bag. I bet I could pack that thing full of all kinds of snacks.

F. Blingy Mouse, BCBG, $18. When I sit down to do invoicing, I'm pretty sure it would be a lot more fun if I had this mouse.

G. Winter Texture Platter, West Elm, $49. How fun would a huge batch of peppermint bark look on this plate? VERY. That's how fun.

I. Rough Crystal Station Ring, Low Luv x Erin Wasson, $53. I am obsessed with Low Luv jewelry. This little guy would be fan-freaking-tastic mixed with a big-as-your-head cocktail ring.

J. Penguin Classic Novels, Amazon, $13. Any of these books, such as Sense and Sensibility or Great Expectations, would look great on any man or woman's shelf. Penguin has re-released them with beautiful, arty spines and covers.

K. Scout Roll-up Travel Kit, Alternative Apparel, $82. This is the kind of thing that a guy is never gonna buy for himself, but he would surely love to get. Again, Alternative Apparel, coming in strong with another item on the list. This would also be great monogrammed, wouldn't it?

L. John Derian Paperweight, J. Crew, $30. This would be a good gift for the business man dad or husband. Or, maybe your cousin who lives in New York.

M. Retro USB Turntable, Urban Outfitters, $128. Even if you don't listen to LPs, this record player has an iPod attachment, so you can still look super cool with it sitting in the cabinet.

N. Watch, Converse, $79. There are not enough words for how cool this watch is. It's gonna take a certain dude to wear it, but watch out if you have one.

O. Highlands Botas, TOMS, $79. These look a little more winter-resistant than the old TOMS-standby, huh?

P. Surf Documentary Scratching The Surface, $29.95. I recently took a trip to Costa Rica to learn to surf. The place I stayed had TVs in the common area running surfing 24/7. The surfing on TV mesmerized the guys who were with us, my husband being one, like NFL football. You really can't turn away because what they are doing is so dang awesome. This doc follows surfer Julian Wilson to such places as Bali, France, and South Africa.

Steel Magnolia "Last Night Again"

Alright people. It's the new video from Steel Magnolia. I love it. I think it is just the cutest thing ever. I did the band's wardrobe, and Carrie did the wardrobe of the extra's, who are all supposed to be in a modern-day version of "Grease." We wanted an "homage" to "Grease" without going all-out period costumes. What do y'all think? I'll put the YouTube clip below the video that the middle-section of "Last Night Again" was based on. Dude Outfit of the Month: By Justin

I've said this so many times before. When you're a stylist who is self-employed, your "co-workers" and those you discuss random things like the Kardashians with are the people who work at the stores you frequent. With today's guest blogger, Justin Holbrook, the topics can range from the Republican Senate ticket to Justin Bieber. Justin (Holbrook, not Bieber) is one of my faves. He works out at Belk, and is pretty much the only good thing about driving to Cool Springs on many of my days. He kindly wrote today's blog, your Dude Outfit of the Month, chock full of tips that only a dude could provide.

My style can always vacillate between Nantucket Chic and True, Southern Fratastic. Regardless, it's always fun to prep out a bit here and there, and that look never really goes out of style. My wardrobe is pretty basic with many universal pieces and a little strategic fun thrown in. It's true I love to spend the most on items I'm going to reach for more frequently. I feel you should spend your money on good shoes, belts, ties, sunglasses, and watches... by the time you've worn them out, it becomes pennies per wear. Having said that, it's still possible to look good and not break the bank doing so.

A. Non-Iron Ainsley Collar Dress Shirt, Brooks Brothers, 3 for $199. Let's start with a great non-iron dress shirt. I love the Brooks Brothers all-cotton version. The preppy classic brand now offers an updated Extra-Slim Fit which will give you a trimmer silhouette right off the rack. Pull it out of the dryer and go. (Money saved on dry cleaning can go to a few extra brews at your favorite watering hole.) The shirts come in a multitude of colors and three different collar options. I especially love a light blue Ainsley Collar button-up. Right now they're three for $199, too, so stock up!

B. Monogram Dress Pant, Banana Republic, $155. Next, a good wool dress pant that also resists wrinkles. When you want something that lasts wear after wear and is pretty timeless, Banana Republic's Monogram dress pant is what you need. This wool/spandex version is trend-right without being too trendy--the back pocket flaps are an awesome addition. Pair the black/charcoal detailed pant with basically any color Non-Iron, but especially our light blue favorite.

C. McCormack Knit Tie, J. Crew, $69.50. A man's greatest chance to accessorize: the necktie. I've always loved J Crew for a fun variety of neckwear at a terribly reasonable price. Let's face it, they're the best at bowties, too! For our current look, though, let's do an iconic knit tie in a skinny navy cashmere blend. I just ordered this tie last week and it can literally go with at least twelve different shirts in my closet! Besides, knit ties just look cooler!

D. Magnanni "Basilio" Apron Toe Oxford, Nordstrom, $295. Now for footwear. I'm sure we don't have to remind you that your belt must always match your shoes. Guys also need to ditch the clunky square-toed shoes for a more updated slimmer, round-toed version. Nothing is as important as a good pair of dress shoes. The right ones might cost a little more, but with proper care and maintenance, they'll last an age. With our charcoal pants, I love the way these leather oxfords look. The burnished effect makes them look quite rich, and the brand has been producing high-quality leather shoes for years while consistently garnering rave customer reviews.

E. Eleven Eleven Aluminum Watch, Neiman Marcus, $295. You might not think this bright blue patent leather watch really works with our uber-buttoned up look, but that's part of the fun. These watches go from suit and tie to jeans and a T-shirt in seconds flat and they're incredibly comfortable and lightweight. You can also change out the bands if you're so creatively inclined. It's a little unexpected whimsy in just the right spot and sometimes that is exactly what separates the fashionable from the rest of the world.

Put it all together and I guarantee people will notice your new style upgrade. Don't be afraid to reach for a cozy cardigan on a chilly Fall day to take the look to an even higher level of prep!

It's that time of year again--time for the Dude Fall/Winter Must-haves! Listen up, ladies--these are also great gifts for your boy, so keep reading!

A. fashionABLE Scarf, Etanesh on livefashionABLE.com, $24. If you read this blog at all, you know I spend a lot of time working with Mocha Club on their new venture, fashionABLE. It's hard to pick a favorite scarf, but if I had to pick a "most versatile" scarf in the line, it would be this one. It's stretchy, has great texture, and works really well for guys.
B. Esquire's Big Black Book, Amazon.com, $14.88. This book is a MUST OWN for all men. It has tons of tips for outfits, answers to questions like "What color shoe do I wear with a navy suit?" and "What constitutes black tie attire?"
C. Shawl Collar Cardigan, Topman, $108. A lot of you probably already own cardigans, but I love this more grandpa-ish/Mr. Rogers spin on it with the shawl collar. A grey or black one would be really versatile over all those plaid shirts you probably own, but I think this rust color feels a little more special.
D. Whiskey Cocktail Book, Barnes and Noble, $5.99. It seems lately that the hot ticket in all the towns I've been visiting are throwback hang-outs like The Patterson House or cool whiskey bars. Wanna have some people over and just stay in for the wintery night? Brush up on your adult-beverage-making skills with a mini-bar book like this one.
E. Utility Bag, A. Kurtz, $68. If you are a guy in Nashville, there's a higher-than-average chance that you are self-employed or at the least, aren't hanging in a cubicle that often. Thus, you are hauling around your MacBook and making the rounds at a few coffee shops takin' care of bizness. Might as well be carrying your gear in style in a cool utility bag like this one from A. Kurtz. Not in Nashville? You've still got stuff to carry, right? So get a cool man-bag.
F. Wingtip Boot, Urban Outfitters, $78. I think this boot mixes so well with all the American Heritage styles that are re-surfacing. Translation: that old school J. Crew/Ralph Lauren look.
G. Chunky Fisherman Sweater, BDG, $73.50. A chunky sweater is a must for very chilly winter days. Get one or two in neutral colors and just like the cardigan, layer it on top of all your plaid and checked shirts that you wore out earlier in the year.
H. Red and Black Plaid Shirt, Penguin, $79. You could go all out and get the lumberjack plaid that your dad probably has in his closet or you could get a more modern version like this one from Penguin. There are lots of iterations out there and red looks good on everyone.
I. Classic Watch, Timex, $29.99. Every guy needs a good watch and the one that is on my radar this season is one in a classic shape that will literally last for years.
J. Versatile Worn-In-Looking Tee, J. Crew, $36. Put it under the cardigan, jacket, shirt, sweater...couldn't be easier. Your undershirt should also be cool.
K. Fair Isle Accessories, Hat $34 and Gloves $18 both Urban Outfitters. So "Fair Isle" is actually located in an archipelago just north of Scotland. The eponymous sweater originated here and has been around for hundreds of years. Talk about fashion being cyclical, huh? I wouldn't object to any guy getting a sweater or cardigan with this classic pattern, but for most of you, it's probably safer to stick to accessories like these.
L. Tweed Jacket, ASOS, $89.65. I love mixing patterns and textures in the winter. This tweed jacket would look great over a dark plaid, a black velvet vest, or again, over your easy, versatile tee.
M. Dark Wash Slim Fit Denim, Levi's 511, $98. I'm a big fan of the Levi's 511. It's not too skinny for the average Joe, it makes almost every guy look slimmer and taller, and the leg opening will still fit over all your boots. Oh, and it's great for cuffing! If you don't have a super-dark wash pair of denim like this, you need to stop reading right now and go buy some.

Amber Lehman Styling's Fall/Winter Must-Haves for Gals

Just in time for your BLACK FRIDAY shopping is the Amber Lehman Styling list of Fall and Winter Must-Haves. These are mine, obviously. Well, what are yours? What is one thing you are determined to get this year?

A. Navajo accessories, bucket bag Topshop $110 and earrings Noir jewelry $51.20. I've written an entire blog post dedicated to Navajo accessories. I love them. Upon finding out we were going to Phoenix for family vacay, my first exclamation was, "There's turquoise there!" And how delightfully 80s is that bag? It'll be perfect with turquoise.

B. Red lipstick, Russian Red by MAC, $14.50. I've only recently gotten brave enough to wear red lipstick. I get way more compliments when I do than when I don't. Who knew? It'll brighten up even the pastiest winter skin, and Russian Red is a makeup artist's fave.

C. Tall socks under boots, Free People, $28. Pretty self-explanatory, huh? Get yourself some thigh-high socks, scrunch 'em up and let 'em hang out of your boots. Wear over tights or leggings with skirts and dresses.

D. Long knuckle ring, House of Harlowe, $65. Horizontal knuckle rings have been very in vogue and now vertical knuckle rings are. Get a wide one and a tall one and double them up for massive impact.

E. Vintagey old-school cardigan, Madewell, $78. Must look as grandpa as possible. Oversized is good too. (This is easily thrifted if you have the time.)

F. FashionABLE scarf, Bezuayhu on livefashionable.com, $22. Y'all know I love these, I help design and style them, and we've made SURE they're super soft and comf. Yes, comf. Short for comfy. Know what else? You're helping provide a job for a woman who doesn't have one with your purchase.

G. Chocolate brown nail polish, Little Brown Dress by Essie, $8. I'm predicting chocolate brown is the next "You Don't know Jacques."

H. Oversized boyfriend coat, Topshop, $170. Wanna update your coat selection? Oversized and man-ish is the way to go. You can hide the extra holiday "fluff" underneath.

I. High-rise skinny jeans, Madewell, $98. Tuck your shirt in, belt 'em, and wear with oxfords or tuck into granny boots.

J. Fitted long-sleeve maxi dress, T by Alexander Wang, $145. This is one of my faves! Put a faux fur vest over this, wear with long layered necklaces, lace-up boots and let your socks shine free.

K. Wide-brim fedora, BCBG, $48. An updated version of what has become a staple for many gals, who maybe like me, sometimes neglect to wash our hair regularly.

L. Lace-up granny boots, Aldo, $120. Maybe the most versatile boot you'll buy this year. Wear with short socks and a dress or tuck your jeans into them. Perfect!

Here's me and the most stylish girl in Addis

A lot of you probably know this already, but last month, I went to Ethiopia on a fact-finding/scouting/get-it-done trip with Mocha Club, all to help launch their line of scarves, fashionABLE. I don't know exactly what my role is, maybe just fashion mentor is a good word for it. I've been doing styling for quite a few years now, and have my finger on the pulse of what's cool, I guess. That's what they tell me anyway :-).

I'm so excited to be part of this venture. I love Africa, and I've been a big supporter of Mocha Club's work for a few years. Working in fashion and music is hard and draining, and can feel very superficial at times. Serving in a way like this is completely life-giving and gets me out of the tunnel vision that I often have with my job.

CMA Awards 2010 Rundown

It's been a BUSY few weeks. Especially last week, CMA Awards Week. It's not quite to the level of Rachel Zoe craziness, but it's about as close as we get here in Nashville. As I'm finally breathing here on Saturday morning post-Awards, I thought I would give you my round-up of who we dressed and what they wore. "Country Strong"

It's a pretty exciting day when there's a movie shooting in Nashville. It's an even better day when you get the phone call to come style the movie poster with Mark Seliger, one of the most well-known photogs in the world. Granted, my "styling" of the poster amounted to me running back and forth to the movie trailer to get the right outfits, and then, the pics are nowhere to actually be found on the poster. Oh well, I had a really nice convo with Leighton Meester, and somehow managed to remain semi-cool despite how nervous I was. I will say, her hair is in fact that shiny in person. And she is very cool.

Fast forward to last night, and we got to pick a little get-up for Steel Magnolia for the red carpet at the premiere. Meg is wearing a super-cute dress by Ani Lee, and earrings by Madewell.
