My "Hell or High Water" Clothing Item

Confession: Cargo pants are my favorite wardrobe item, and I already own a bunch. BUT...I just bought two more pairs today!!! It's yet another reason why Jennifer, errr, JEN Aniston and I are destined to be BFF. Do a google search of "Jennifer Aniston" and "cargo pants" and you'll see her in about 49 different pairs.

Cargo pants really are one of the items of clothing in my closet that come hell or high water, I refuse to give up. I don't care what size teeny-tiny leg opening or what denim "jegging" threatens to take their place, I'll never, repeat NEVER remove them from high atop my list of faves. If I'm not in my pajama pants at my house, there's a 90% chance I have on cargoes, and I wear them every single weekend. Always having bordered on claustrophobia, I have approximately a 10-hr per week quota on skinny jeans. Once those 10 hours are up, pass me the brown paper bag and the cargo pants, I'm hyperventilating.

It's a fact: You can still wear cargo pants and look good. There's just some tricks you gotta know. 1) Wear a cute shoe (i.e. not flip-flops), 2) Go a little dressier on top than you might normally be comfortable with cargo pants, and 3) Splash it with some glam jewelry. Or if you're Jen, just get yourself some awesome highlights and substitute for any of the above.

Taking a nod from the J. Crew display at the Green Hills mall today, here's a cute, but casual cargo pants weekend look. Or for Amber Lehman, it's the "I'm out shopping and hauling stuff around but still need to appear professional and not shabby" everyday look.

Here's the pair I just bought in white and "chocolate bunny brown." They're $13.99 in stores right now! We're building our outfit with the brown. And we're also cuffing the bottom like this. FYI.
The new cargo, Gap for $34.99.

A sweet little blouse for the top half. Love myself a blouse.
French Connection
Mini Edelwess Top, $88

Lord knows I hate washing my hair, so hats are generally a factor for me...I like how this fedora pulls in the black flats to the rest of the outfit.
Forever 21 Colorblock
Straw Fedora, $12.80. If you're not a hat girl, how bout a headband?

No heels for this gal. Rachel Zoe I am not. Not only does my scale top out at over 100 lbs, but I do my own shopping, and I'm guessing you do too, so we aren't sporting platforms around
town too much now, are we?

Kelsi Dagger (a new brand at The Perfect Pair and one of my new faves)
ballet flat, Piperlime for $69.99. OR for dinner out, take it up a notch with this GUH-reat wedge.

Here's your glam piece. Everything was getting a little sweet for me, so we had to toughen this outfit up with this beauty. And don't get onto me. I know it's expensive, but you're gonna wear it with all your other outfits, so just suck it up. It can be your signature piece.
Fenton/Fallon for J.Crew punky necklace, J.Crew for $125.

At the end of the day, don't we all just want to be comfortable, not look like we're trying too hard and just do our thing? The older I get, the more I simply want to do just that, and it's OH-kay. Outside of wearing, like, "Hello, Kitty" t-shirts at age 30, you should be able to hang onto clothes that make you happy and work them into the current trends. My thing is cargo pants. I will not give them up. What's yours? What's your "come hell or high water you're not prying these from my cold, dead fingers" clothing item?

1. Big ridiculous hair. I CANT do flat sleek styles for the life of me! I'm straight southern belle hair and can't stop.

2. Bright printed tops and dresses. I'm sooooo bored without them!

I've been (silently) following your blog for a while now, and thought it was time to tell you that I loved this post! I actually bought the j.crew necklace and love it. and my hell or high-water item is jersey dresses. i will be buried in an easy, flowy, cotton jersey dress (color to be decided). :)
