Flea Market Glasses!

So we all love Anthropologie. They perfectly recreate everything you could find at a flea market/garage sale/antique store...if only you had the time to look for it. Well, none of us do, so somebody is making a killing in the home furnishings area of that conglomerate. At any rate, don't you just love those antiquey tumblers they have there...make you feel like you should be sitting on a front porch, sweatin' up a storm, drinking iced tea. You could go to the Tennessee State Antique Mall off Wedgewood and rifle through tons of stuff on your day off this Saturday OR you can buy these at Anthropologie for $8-$10/glass (top). OR, check these out at Pier 1 for $3.50 a glass (below). Yeah, the quality might be a little lacking, but hey, you won't feel so bad when you break one, and you'll achieve the shabby chic aesthetic for half the price ;-)

Cheap Outfit of the Day!

People say you can't dress cute and trendy on a budget. Well, check out this outfit from Old Navy. The jumper retails for $29.50 and is on sale for $12.99! The cute little canvas clutch retails for $19.50 and is also $12.99. Add some cute earrings and a wooden bangle or two, and you have an everyday outfit with some cute flats or with some wedge heels as a going-out number, all for under $50. Safari-inspired is very in for spring--I could see this with a printed scarf in your hair or around your neck or replace the belt with something a little more wild.

Beach Cover-ups You Already Own!

I just got back from the beach. So sue me, people. I have a weird job and can go to Florida @ the drop of a hat. Speaking of Florida, I swear the Panhandle spawns some new luxury development every 6 mos. That place is ridiculous. We stayed in Rosemary Beach and went to this coffee shop/wine bar/book store one afternoon called Fonville Press. If only it had had clothes, it might have been the perfect store.

In light of my recent 4 days lounging in the sun on the beach, here are 6 beach cover-ups you already own (i.e. no need to buy a new one this year!!!):

1. Your honey's v-neck, which will be perfectly oversized on you, and denim cutoffs.
2. That jersey babydoll dress from last summer. On the way out of style for real life, but not for the beach, yo.
3. A cardigan and those J.Crew shorts that you only wear to family picnics. Just put the cardigan over your bikini and let it rip.
4. That Abercrombie mini-skirt you bought before you realized that you really should stop shopping there. Hey, that thing is way too short for you to wear out in public, but not for the beach! Put it on with the band t-shirt you bought at Target two years ago.
5. Hippie, ankle-length skirt purchased when you were in your Sienna-Miller-boho phase. Throw it on with a wife-beater and a wide-brimmed sunhat.
6. Your boyfriend's/husband's/dad's worn button-up. Roll up the sleeves and put on your baseball cap.

Happy First Day of Spring! Hope you get to go to the beach soon!

Buy Boots Now!

If I could only give one piece of advice today, it might be to buy boots! Now is the time of year when boot prices are getting completely slashed because when it is 75 outside, no one wants to think about them anymore...everybody is going sandal-nuts and getting out there flip-flops from last year. There are so many good deals on boots right now, and can I just say, you can still wear them in spring. Here's what you do: You go to and you buy these boots, which are more than 1/2 off or these @ Then you put 'em with that dress in your closet that looks something like this. That one is pricey as heck, but it's just for inspiration. You get my drift. Dresses + boots=cute transition from winter to spring. That's all I'm saying. Even if you don't wear your new purchase again until next year, how freaking excited are you gonna be to pull those out of the storage box. It's like the gift that keeps on giving...or something like that.

Top 10 Wardrobe Essentials

What better way to start the ALS blog than by telling you the top 10 Wardrobe Essentials for girls and dudes I recently compiled for "Christian Single" magazine. Here ya go:

1. A flat-front, bootcut jean in dark denim or a trouser cut if you are a little taller. A good one.
2. A great fitting pair of black pants.
3. A tailored, white, menswear-inspired button-up--These always look polished.

4. A great long cardigan in a basic color--This is nice for layering over t-shirts and tanks when it’s chilly out or for a cute casual look while you’re traveling.
5. A basic sheath dress--Depending on your body type you could choose one with a defined middle or one that is a little less structured.
6. A great pair of flats--Maybe try these in a metallic color so that they can be dressed up or down.
7. One great bag--A casual tote or structured top-handle bag in a basic color of a high-quality material (score one of these at TJ Maxx). Alternatively, a clutch (like Hobo) that can double as a wallet if you’re not a big bag kind of gal is a great option.
8. A great pair of pumps in black. Pointy-toed pumps, in particular, never seem to go out of style and will lengthen the leg on any lady!
9. Great-fitting t-shirts or tanks in heather gray, black, and white. You can’t skimp here. You need to go for quality because you will be layering these and wearing them a lot. Go for a brand like American Apparel, which won’t break the budget but is still a nice garment.
10. Gold hoop earrings or a thin, long necklace, depending on whether you’re an “earrings” or a “necklace” girl.

1. Great fitting pair of dark denim jeans--preferably a slight bootcut or a flare, whichever you prefer, but try to steer clear of anything that can be construed as “baggy.” Also, some distressing is good on jeans, but for an essential pair, you want them to be versatile and not too casual, which a lot of distressing tends to lean toward. An example.
2. Casual blazer or sportcoat--This should be in a basic color like army green or khaki. You can wear this over a more casual t-shirt or button-up to take the look up a notch.
3. Nicely tailored suit–How many weddings have you gone to in the last year? Thank you. You need a great suit for these and all those interviews. Next time you're in Chicago or NYC, stop by H & M. Their suits have great European tailoring and are less than $150 for both pieces!

4. Hip tennis-shoe option–Try a brand like Puma or PF Flyers. They are hip without trying too hard and still comfy!

5. Nice dress shoe–Either a lace-up option or a slip-on like a driving shoe are both good choices.

6. Casual button-up option--Military-inspired or a western-style shirt is great with a pair of jeans for a Saturday.

7. Basic track jacket or hoodie. My fave.

8. Tailored dressy button-up in white or baby blue–This needs to be one that is nicely fitted. Here is a good place to splurge on a custom-made shirt if you have long arms, for example.

9. Flat-front, more casual pant option in khaki--These can be worn with tennis shoes for day or dressed up for a night out.

10. An awesome watch–A nice watch is not only useful, but makes your look appear more pulled together. Diese
land Fossil make awesome men's watches.
